COMMENTARY

It's About Realism

Most flight simmers are looking for realism in all the wrong places.

Realistic sceneries, aircraft, panels, gauges, sounds, and ATC are all very nice, but the only true way to simulate flight realistically is to do it the way real-world pilots do it. Simming without knowing about your aircraft, or following the proper procedures, or using official aviation charts are not realistic.

That's what my books are about. You'll learn how to know your aircraft, follow procedures, use real aviation charts, and much more.

All my books are written exclusively for flight simmers. They're based on official aviation reference and training materials. They explain all the information in easy-to-understand English. Terms and acronyms are clearly defined.

If realistic flight simming is what you seek, you'll find it through my books. And your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Order my flight-sim books today. You'll be glad you did.

Learn to read official aviation charts. See how real pilots plan and prepare their cross-country flights. Learn how to compensate for winds so you can stay on course. See how to use the same skyways that real commercial pilots use. And learn how to use the Global Positioning System for precise navigation. All these navigation facts and methods are explained in a manual written just for flight-simulation pilots like you from real aviation texts. Clear explanations, concise definitions, easy-to-follow graphics and self-learning exercises make your learning task easy and fun. The whole book applies to all flight-simulation programs, including yours. With all this information for only US$15.95 US$13.95, Flight-Sim Navigation is among the better values on the Internet.

Reach Any Destination the Way Real Pilots Do

Learn to use the methods that real commercial, military and general-aviation pilots use to get from airport to airport, coast to coast and continent to continent. Your Flight-Sim Navigation explains all of it!

Use Professional Navigation Concepts, Methods and Terms

Your Flight-Sim Navigation explains the fundamentals of navigation first, so you can easily learn the more complicated principles, procedures and practices. You will learn about position, direction, distance, time, speed, altitude and much more. Then you will build on these fundamentals in later chapters.

Read and Use Aviation Charts

Your Flight-Sim Navigation explains aviation charts, where to get them and how to use them for the most realistic navigation. You'll learn about Sectionals, World Aeronautical Charts, En Route Charts, Planning Charts, Terminal Area Charts, Operational Charts and special charts. Note: Flight-Sim Navigation is a self-training manual that contains a few exerpts of aviation charts as samples for instruction. It does not contain any entire charts. If you are looking for aviation charts, search the flight-sim links for aviation chart suppliers.

Plan and Prepare Like Professional Pilots

Lay out your cross-country flights the way real pilots lay out theirs. Learn to select best courses, choose best altitudes, make and use flight plans, get your equipment ready, keep your cockpit in order and much more. It's all clearly explained in your Flight-Sim Navigation.

Compensate for Winds and Stay on Course

Winds, which pilots find almost everywhere, at every altitude and at every moment, can push you far off course unless you compensate for them. Your Flight-Sim Navigation thoroughly explains how to compensate for head winds, tail winds, cross winds and high-speed, high-altitude winds. Use the wind triangle to calculate course adjustments and plot your progress along your course.

Use the Same Skyways the Airlines Use

Specified air routes are required in many airspaces, altitudes and conditions. Your Flight-Sim Navigation describes the airways and jet routes and explains how to use them.

Navigate With the Global Positioning System

Learn to use the newest, easiest and most accurate navigation system available to general-aviation pilots in decades. It's available to most flight-simulation aviators, and your Flight-Sim Navigation explains it clearly with definitions, descriptions, explanations and visual depictions. Learn about waypoints, GPS devices and more.

Navigate Long Range

Combine all the techniques from Chapters 1 through 8 and fly from continent to continent, over sparsely populated seas and bush country. It's all explained in an all new chapter! And fly our suggested long-range routes: New York to London, Seattle to Tokyo and plenty of others! NEW CHAPTER in this release.

Get Real Aviation Charts

Use our list of reputable real-world pilot-supply shops to get the real navigation charts you need for your cross-country and long-range flights. Only reputable and reliable dealers are listed — no amateurs.

Find Needed Information Quickly and Easily

Your Flight-Sim Navigation is organized and laid out for your easiest use. Information is divided into relevant chapters, and chapters are organized into easy-to-follow sections. Headings and captions help you find information quickly. It's fully indexed for quick reference.

Your Flight-Sim Navigation lies flat for easy use.

Clearly Written and Easy to Use

Your Flight-Sim Naviation is written by expert flight simmers and professional aviators, then published by an experienced training enterprise to help you learn by reading and doing. Policies, procedures and practices used by professional real-world pilots are explained in straight-forward, easy-to-follow English. Visual aids help you grasp the principles, and easy-to-follow exercises help you apply the concepts and methods for experience and learning.

Graphical aids are easy to read, understand and use.

For All Flight Simmers

The flight principles, procedures and practices explained in Flight-Sim Navigation apply to all aircraft -- general aviation, commercial or military -- as well as all flight-sim games. It's comparable to flight training manuals that apply to all aircraft, including the popular and special ones. We can't write one book that explains every specific aircraft, and we can't write a separate book for each airpline, either. So we explain the most common general-aviation aircraft in this book, and readers can easily adapt our explanations to the specific aircraft they're flying. Frankly, anybody who cannot adapt fundamental navigation knowledge to specific simulators lacks the right stuff for flight simming.

For Anywhere in the World

Whether you are in Africa, Asia, the Americas, Australia, Europe or the Pacific Rim, Flight Simulator Navigation is for you. It is based on real aviation rules, principles, procedures and practices that general-aviation pilots use around the world. The only exceptions are those few aviation laws and regulations unique to your country.

For Home Flight Simulation Exclusively

Your Flight-Sim Navigation is written exclusively for home flight-simulation pilots. It's based on real aviation textbooks and manuals — with the relevant material emphasized and the irrelevant material omitted. You will not need to flip through pages and pages of technical aviation texts, because that work has been done for you. You won't have to skip over irrelevant materials, because they have been omitted for you.

It covers plenty, doesn't it?
Sample Text

Each official sectional is scaled at 1:500,000, which means that each unit on the chart represents 500,000 real units (inches to inches, feet to feet, centimeters to centimeters, and so forth). Generally, sectionals cover approximately 50,000 square nautical miles (they are not all the same size). They display the northern half of their coverage area on one side and the southern half on the other side. Most of them are named for a major city in their coverage area, such as Atlanta, Los Angeles and Miami. Hawaii and Puerto Rico sectionals are named for the state and territory, respectively.

It's easy to follow, isn't it?

Frequently Asked Questions

Three questions are frequently asked about our books:

How Many Pages?

Your Flight-Sim Navigation has 176 information-filled pages. This manual will quickly and easily provide you the knowledge you seek and the answer you need as a flight simmer.

Are the Graphics in Color?

The books we publish provide knowledge, information and skill for a reasonable investment. Our graphics are carefully designed to convey concepts quickly and simply at minimal cost. Flight simmers who buy our books appreciate this feature, so we do not waste time and money trying to dazzle them with expensive and unnecessary colors. Thus, all the graphics are monochrome, as is true with nearly most aviation and flight-sim manuals.

Does the Book Contain Charts?

No. We are not chart suppliers. We are trainers who publish how-to and reference books to help flight simmers enjoy their hobby as much as possible. Our books have examples of charts for demonstration and learning, but we are neither a publisher nor a supplier of charts. If you are looking for charts, check out the charts suppliers listed on our links site. NOTE: There is no such thing as a single book that contains all the airways, navaids, approach plates and so forth for the entire world. It would be too heavy to lift!

Realistic flight simming requires knowledge and adherence to professional requirements and practices. Simmers who jump into their cockpits without these basics are needlessly frustrating themselves. Get a Free V-Speed Card!

With the Purchase of Bill Stack's Excellent Flight-Sim Books!

V-speeds are a series of velocities designated by aviation authorities. Some are minimums, some are maximums, and some are optimums. For example, Vne means the designated velocity should never be exceeded (it differs for each aircraft).

Your V-speed card lists the most common general-aviation V-speeds in two easy-to-find ways -- alphabetically on one side and by velocity on the other side. Each V-speed is identified by name and abbreviation and explained in clear language. The cards are a handy size for using right at your flight simulator.

RELEVANCY NOTICE:

Like all our flight-sim books, Flight-Sim Navigation is only for home flight-simulation computer games. It is based on real aviation laws, regulations, and procedures so home flight-simulation enthusiasts can maximize their enjoyment. Because some aspects of home flight-simulation games are not exactly like real-world aviation, some information in this manual is not exactly like real flight. That is why these books are not intended for and should not be used for real-world flight or lessons. We accept no liability for any misuse of these flight-simulation manuals.
